Global STEAM Education Ahead! Our world has challenges and it needs STEAM scholars.
STEAM is an acronym for science, technology, engineering, arts/architecture, and mathematics. We need to equip our students into becoming global citizens, where they utilize their STEAM education to solve the environmental and human impact issues on our planet. Combining Global and STEAM education focus our classrooms to address real world problems. According to the Global Issues to watch in 2018, the UN Foundation highlights the mass acceleration of carbon emissions, while also needing to sustainably prepare for future migration patterns of people around the world. It is with these challenges, that we need global education to help our children complexly understand, articulate, and address solutions for these needs. |
A Rationale for Global Education
Contemporary societies are marked by new global trends—economic, cultural, technological, and environmental shifts that are part of a rapid and uneven wave of globalization. The growing global interdependence that characterizes our time calls for a generation of individuals who can engage in effective global problem solving and participate simultaneously in local, national, and global civic life. Put simply, preparing our students to participate fully in today’s and tomorrow’s world demands that we nurture their global competence.
Whether they become scientists or a politician, our children need to be aware of their power and influence with local bond measures to international diplomacy. It is responsibility of us educators to ensure that they understand the impact of their decisions and actions.
